God Strong – Part 1 – October 6th, 2019

  1. God wants you to be spiritually strong.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Ephesians 6:10

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:14

You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:1

  1. Spiritual strength takes time and effort.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

1 Timothy 4:7-8

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6-7

3a. You need spiritual strength because you live in a hostile fallen world.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:12

  1. You need spiritual strength because you have a fallen nature at war within you.

So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Romans 7:21-24

  1. You need spiritual strength because you have a fallen enemy.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Revelation 12:11

  1. Not what would Jesus do, but what did Jesus do.

Jesus was strong in God’s word, prayer, fellowship, and giving.
