The Church’s Foundation

  1. The importance of a good foundation.

“And I say to thee. thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Matthew 16:18

  1. The ideal foundation.

16So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.

Isaiah 28:16

11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11

19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

Ephesians 2:19-20

  1. The invitation to build.

24″Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:24

7″Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Matthew 7:7

4As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him- 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

1 Peter 2:4-7
